Since 30 Garments, 30 Women, 30 Stories has organically grown beyond its original title to include men who connect with the philosophy of wearing stories rather than simply clothes, this month feature can acknowledge that evolution, while staying true to the project’s heart.

This editorial below is written in the voice of a luxury fashion journal, personal, reflective, and centered on both the garment and the person wearing it.

Terra Flora was born from that feeling, a dialogue between terracotta earth and delicate florals, between structure and softness, between restraint and expression. It explores the tension between strength and vulnerability, transforming fabric into a visual language of growth, movement and becoming.

More than a garment, it is a story.

When Vee launched 30 Garments, 30 Women, 30 Stories, it began as a celebration of women from different cultures, backgrounds, ages and walks of life. Over time, the project evolved beyond its original title. What remained constant was not gender, but storytelling. The series became a platform for individuals who connect with the idea that clothing can carry emotion, memory and identity.

This September, that story continues with Sjoerd.

A New Chapter

At just 21 years old, Sjoerd arrived in Kuala Lumpur from the Netherlands for what was intended to be an industrial engineering internship.

Modelling was never part of the plan.

A chance recommendation from trainers at his martial arts gym led him to audition for the International Supermodel Competition. With no prior experience, he stepped into an unfamiliar world driven by curiosity rather than expectation. Within months, he found himself walking in major fashion events, including Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (Men’s Collection).

The common thread throughout his journey has not been fashion alone. It has been a willingness to embrace the unknown.

“I love going outside of my comfort zone and trying new things.”

That spirit of openness feels perfectly aligned with Terra Flora a collection rooted in transformation, exploration and growth.

Wearing a Story

Fashion weeks and runway shows move at an exhilarating pace.

One fitting.

One look.

One walk.

Then the next garment arrives.

For Sjoerd, independent creative projects offer something entirely different.

“You’re no longer just wearing a design. You’re wearing a story.”

It is a sentiment that sits at the very heart of Vee’s creative philosophy.

Every gathered fold, every asymmetrical line and every carefully placed floral detail exists with intention. The garment is not designed to overshadow the wearer, nor does it ask the wearer to disappear behind it. Instead, it creates a dialogue between designer, garment and individual.

The story becomes shared.

The Language of Terra Flora

At its core, Terra Flora is a study in contrasts.

Rich terracotta satin creates structure and presence, while soft floral fabric introduces movement and delicacy. The sculptural collar blooms organically around the neckline, creating a silhouette that feels both architectural and natural.

When Sjoerd first wore the piece, the emotional connection was immediate.

“The front of the design gives me flowery vibes. The curves mixed with the lively colours give me a very positive feeling.”

When asked to describe the garment in three words, his answer came effortlessly:

Lively. Open. Organic.

Three words that capture not only the piece itself, but the feeling it leaves behind.

Blooming Into Something New

Fashion often tells stories before words are spoken.

For Sjoerd, the narrative behind Terra Flora felt surprisingly personal.

“I feel like the story could be about opening up, growing, or stepping into something new.”

His interpretation mirrors his own experience.

Only months ago, modelling was completely unfamiliar territory. Today, it has become a space for discovery, creativity and self-expression.

“I expected to be just a model in front of a camera, but during the process it felt more like creating something together.”

That collaborative energy can be felt throughout the series.

The strands of pearls become lines of movement.

The asymmetrical silhouette creates rhythm and flow.

The oversized proportions feel expressive rather than excessive.

Every detail contributes to a larger narrative.

Nothing feels decorative for decoration’s sake.

Outside of modelling, Sjoerd’s personal style is influenced by music, vintage fashion and a touch of rock and roll spirit.

He gravitates toward oversized silhouettes, enjoys standing out through clothing and finds inspiration in creative individuals who are unafraid to express themselves authentically.

His favourite fashion city is Tokyo, a place where individuality and experimentation are celebrated.

That appreciation for bold self-expression makes editorial work particularly exciting for him.

“Editorial style pushes me outside my comfort zone, and that’s exactly what I like.”

In many ways, that mindset mirrors the purpose of the 30 Garments, 30 Women, 30 Stories series itself.
